Throwback Thursday: Tea Towel Apron

Thursday, 22 May 2008 13:19 by sara

This week's throwback tutorial is from Meg of Sew Liberated (formerly located at Montessori By Hand).  If you haven't read her blog before, you absolutely must. She is a Montessori teacher in Mexico, and she makes such wonderful observations about children and life. She is also amazingly crafty (she even has her own line of apron patterns), so you really must visit.

There are several variations of the Tea Towel apron out there, but I like Meg's tutorial for a couple of reasons. First, a lot of these aprons don't include a waistband, which makes them easier to construct, but less exciting.  Meg's version has a nice wide waistband and long, pretty ties.  Second, and perhaps more importantly, I love that her cat is perched by the sewing machine overseeing the project.

I actually picked up a few of Martha's tea towels about six months ago, with the intention of making one of these aprons. As with so many projects, I think selecting the fabrics (or towels, in this case) is the best part. So don't be surprised if I get a little carried away with the aprons this week. Time and weather permitting, of course.

Ready to sew? No? Check out the Burst of Happiness etsy shop for some seriously cute aprons (even if they're not made from tea towels):

Tune in next week for Win-It Wednesday to see my finished apron, and to win your own.

I am not much of a guy who thinks in so deeply about web design but I think your post had some valid points in it. Like designers are forced to design stuff within the limited code available and not go beyond it, their innovation is somewhat limited but still I think Web Design won't die! I agree that Amazon and other some big sites won't have a blog but now a days it's very important to have some sort of option available so people can quickly communicate their thoughts. I think Amazon if wants to shift it to that, they can get a customized CMS for themselves.

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article... but what can I say... I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.

Hey - nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I'm currently using Wordpress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?

The beauty of these blogging engines and CMS platforms is the lack of limitations and ease of manipulation that allows developers to implement rich content and 'skin' the site in such a way that with very little effort one would never notice what it is making the site tick all without limiting content and effectiveness.

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.
