Super Quick + Easy Baby Quilt

I was finally able to photograph the "Super Quick and Easy Baby Quilt" from Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts.  I love how easily this came together, and I had such a fun time choosing the fabric.

The quilting was pretty simple.  If your machine does a satin oval stitch, it'd probably be even quicker.  My machine doesn't, so I used a wide zig zag stitch, reinforced a couple of times.  The quilt is supposed to look like a classic tied quilt, which I've always loved.  It's a little tough to see the quilting, because my thread was a pretty close match to the flowers. The pattern calls for a contrasting thread, but, of course, you can use your own discretion (which I did!)

This particular quilt did not turn out quite as fluffy as the first one I did, because I couldn't find a high loft cotton at my local store. I love the feel of the cotton, and the quilt definitely has an old-fasioned feel to it.  Since it's going to a baby in California, I figure it's okay that it's not as heavy as a baby in the Midwest might need.

I used a high loft poly for the first quilt I made (the book calls for wool batting).  I liked the look of that quilt, but I didn't like the feel of the batting. It didn't feel natural enough.

You can definitely see the quilting better, though.  The Super Quick and Easy Baby Quilt is in the 2-4 hour gift section of the book. I'd say that's probably pretty accurate. I'm not exactly sure how long it took me to put these together, but the machine embroidery definitely slowed me down a bit (the quilt in the book does not require the embroidery, that's something I decided to add).  And, the only reason the embroidery took me a little while is because I'm still trying to master the machine. I think the next quilt will move along at a quicker pace.

The Q is headed to Kansas and the L to San Diego.  They should arrive in time for plenty of summer picnics.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbour were preparing to do some research about that. We got a good book on that matter from our local library and most books where not as influensive as your information. I am very glad to see such information which I was searching for a long time. This made very glad Smile
