Speaking of purses (again)

Wednesday, 23 April 2008 12:48 by sara
Sew, Mama, Sew is having a tutorial contest, which is great news for someone like me. I don't have the experience to write a tutorial, half the time I'm making things up as I go along, anyway.  But, the contest has revealed two things (1) lots of great tutorials and (2) lots of great blogs I've never read.

And you know how I've been obsessed with finding a new purse?

I love the shape of this bag, and the way it uses coordinating fabrics.  Lola did a great job with this tutorial and it makes the bag look very doable.  It also looks like her blog has several great tutorials, which I find very exciting. Because I love tutorials!

This one is called an Everything Bag, but I'm thinking I keep a little bit of "everything" in my purse, so...

Completely random thought:  for this bag, Erin uses a tutorial format that I'm a big fan of. It's just so easy to follow along and not get too ahead of yourself when each webpage is its own step.  And, again, this is another great blog I discovered as a result of the Tutorial Contest.  I can't wait to read more.

These are just two of the tutorials entered in the contest, and the subject matter ranges from mermaid skirts and headbands to post-it note quilts and quilted floor cloths (great idea!).  And in case you're generally not familiar with Sew, Mama, Sew, It's an online fabric store that also happens to have a great tutorials section on their blog.

I personally have embraced the new technologies and the CMS platforms, I think the new tools only make the web designs better. I am glad that new technologies are coming out in web design that make things easier, improved, and better looking for design.

The beauty of these blogging engines and CMS platforms is the lack of limitations and ease of manipulation that allows developers to implement rich content and 'skin' the site in such a way that with very little effort one would never notice what it is making the site tick all without limiting content and effectiveness.

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
